Requirements Overview
The Oregon Real Estate Agency (OREA) requires 30 hours of continuing education per biennial renewal cycle, with the renewal date falling on the last day of each licensee's birth month every 24 months. Effective January 1, 2026, HB 3137 introduced significant changes: a new 2-hour Fair Housing requirement and a reduction of the Law and Rule Required Course (LARRC) from 3 to 2 hours.
First-time active renewals require a structured 26-hour Advanced Practices course (Broker or Principal Broker version) instead of electives, leaving only the 2-hour LARRC and 2-hour Fair Housing as separate courses. Subsequent renewals follow the standard format of 4 mandatory hours plus 26 hours of approved electives. Starting July 1, 2026, licensees must also pass a proficiency assessment before their first active renewal.
Oregon uses 'broker' and 'principal broker' designations — there is no 'agent' or 'salesperson' license. Inactive licensees may renew without CE but must complete CE and possibly pass a Reactivation Exam to return to active status after two or more years of inactivity.
