Requirements Overview

The Kansas Real Estate Commission (KREC) requires 12 hours of continuing education per biennial renewal for all licensees. Every licensee must complete the 3-hour Kansas Required Core course, which covers brokerage relationships and misrepresentation. Salespersons fill the remaining 9 hours with electives, while brokers must also take a 3-hour Broker Core course on supervision and common violations, leaving 6 hours for electives.

All CE must be completed at least 3 business days before the license expiration date. Schools are required to report attendance to KREC within five days of course completion or by the renewal date, whichever is sooner. Licensees are limited to a single 3-hour appraisal-type course per renewal period.

Renewal timing varies: licensees licensed before January 1, 2019 follow a staggered schedule by last name initial, while those licensed after that date renew on the first of the month, two years from their month of issuance. Note that NAR's Code of Ethics requirement is separate from KREC licensing requirements.
