Colorado real estate brokers must complete 24 hours of CE every three years, including three mandatory 4-hour Annual Commission Update (ACU) courses — one per calendar year. The remaining 12 hours are electives. Colorado uses a single 'broker' license; there is no separate agent or salesperson category. Missed ACU versions cannot be made up in a later year.

Requirements Overview

The Colorado Real Estate Commission (CREC) requires all active brokers to complete 24 hours of continuing education per triennial renewal cycle. The centerpiece is the Annual Commission Update (ACU), a 4-hour mandatory course released each calendar year with new content. Brokers must complete all three ACU versions during their cycle, totaling 12 mandatory hours, plus 12 hours of electives.

Each ACU must be finished by December 31 of its calendar year and includes a passing exam. If you miss an ACU deadline, recovery options include a 24-hour Broker Reactivation Course (once every other cycle), a 72-hour CE Recovery Program, or retaking the state exam.

Newly licensed brokers have no CE obligation during their initial license period, which expires December 31 of the issuance year. Inactive licensees need no CE to maintain inactive status but must complete 24 hours to reactivate. CREC conducts random audits, so retain proof of completion for at least four years.
