Idaho Real Estate Agent / Broker Continuing Education Requirements
Requirements Overview
The Idaho Real Estate Commission (IREC) requires 16 hours of continuing education per biennial renewal. The mandatory component is two unique Commission Core courses — developed by IREC each year effective July 1 — covering changes in state law, case law, and current hot topics. Licensees must take Core courses they have not previously completed, ensuring fresh content each cycle. The remaining 12 hours are electives.
First-time salesperson renewals substitute post-license education for electives: 8 hours of Fundamentals plus a 4-hour elective post-license course, in addition to the two Core courses. Subsequent salesperson and broker renewals follow the standard 2 Core + 12 elective structure.
Online elective courses must be ARELLO-certified and require a 70% passing score. Live and remote elective courses do not require an exam. Licensees must attend 100% of each course, and up to 4 hours of CE credit can be earned by attending a regularly scheduled Commission meeting.

Tips for Idaho Real Estate Agents
- Core courses must be ones you have never taken before — check your course history to confirm eligibility before enrolling.
- Attend an IREC Commission meeting for up to 4 hours of free CE credit toward your elective requirement.
- If taking online electives, verify the provider is ARELLO-certified — Idaho will not accept non-certified distance education.
- First-time salespersons should prioritize the 8-hour Fundamentals post-license course early, as it replaces standard electives at first renewal.
