Mississippi Real Estate Agent / Broker Continuing Education Requirements
Requirements Overview
The Mississippi Real Estate Commission (MREC) requires 16 hours of continuing education per biennial renewal cycle. Half of the hours are mandatory: 4 hours of Agency Law, 2 hours of Contract Law, and 2 hours of Mississippi License Law. The other 8 hours are electives from MREC-approved providers. Salespersons and brokers follow the same requirements.
Renewal deadlines are based on the two-year anniversary of each licensee's original issuance date rather than a fixed statewide deadline. Missing the renewal date triggers late fees and potential license lapse, so tracking your personal deadline is important.
Mississippi offers a notable exemption: licensees who are at least 65 years old and have held a Mississippi broker's or salesperson's license for 25 or more years are fully exempt from CE requirements. This is one of the more generous senior exemptions among U.S. states.
Mandatory Topics
| Topic | Hours | Frequency | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agency Law | 4 | Every renewal | Mandatory topic for all licensees. |
| Contract Law | 2 | Every renewal | Mandatory topic for all licensees. |
| Mississippi License Law | 2 | Every renewal | Mandatory topic for all licensees. |

Tips for Mississippi Real Estate Agents
- Your renewal deadline is your personal two-year anniversary from original issuance — not a statewide fixed date. Mark it on your calendar.
- Tackle the 4-hour Agency Law requirement first, as it is the largest single mandatory block and often fills up near renewal deadlines.
- If you qualify for the 65+/25-year exemption, confirm your eligibility with MREC directly at ce@mrec.state.ms.us before relying on it.
- Online courses are accepted without limits, giving you full flexibility to complete all 16 hours remotely.
