Requirements Overview

The Alaska Real Estate Commission requires 20 hours of continuing education per biennial renewal cycle for both salespersons and brokers. Of these, 8 hours must be in Designated Continuing Education (DCE) topics chosen by the Commission, which change each biennium. For the 2024-2026 cycle, DCE topics are Environmental Issues & Land Use, Fair Housing & Property Management, Required Licensee Disclosures, and Counseling Consumers — each at 2 hours.

The remaining 12 hours are Elective Continuing Education (ECE), which must still meet the subject matter requirements in 12 AAC 64.500(a). Students may not receive credit for more than 10 hours of instruction in a single day. Out-of-state courses from nationally recognized providers may be accepted by submitting form #08-4533.

New licensees must also complete 30 hours of post-licensing education within one year of initial licensure, which is separate from CE. Licensees licensed less than 90 days before expiration are exempt from CE for that renewal period.
