Oklahoma RNs must meet one of five continuing competency pathways every 2 years: 24 CE contact hours, 520 work hours in an RN-required position, current specialty certification, a Board-approved refresher course, or 6 academic semester credits. Licenses expire on the last day of your birth month in even years.

Requirements Overview

Oklahoma requires registered nurses to demonstrate continuing competency through one of five pathways at each biennial renewal. The most common is 24 contact hours of CE from Board-approved or ANCC-accredited providers. Nurses who work at least 520 hours in an RN-required position can use verified employment instead.

Three additional alternatives exist: current nursing specialty certification, a Board-approved refresher course, or 6 academic semester credit hours at your licensure level or higher. You need only one pathway.

Licenses expire on the last day of your birth month every even year. Renewal notifications are sent 90 days beforehand, but nurses are responsible for tracking deadlines. The fee is $75, with additional charges and potential suspension for late renewal. CE records must be retained for 4 years.
