Unlike most states, California does not frame its requirement as general Health, Safety & Welfare hours — the two subjects are mandated by name. There is also no first-renewal exemption: newly licensed architects must meet the requirement at their first renewal no matter how long they have held the license, and the law allows no waiver or extension.
Architects self-certify compliance at renewal, but the Board runs random audits, so keep course documentation for two years.
